und nitrophilen Säumen (v.a. Stellarietea), an Flußufern,
in sciophilen Stellarietea- bzw. Artemisietea-Gesellschaften,

Abstract
Parietaria judaica is a nitrophilous species with a high phenotypic
plasticity. At suitable growing conditions the length of the shoots (110
cm) and the size of the leaves (max. 6 cm) are remarkably larger than mentioned
in the central European floras. For the differentiation from Parietaria
officinalis which is often confused with Parietria judaica the
post-floral growing of the hermaphroditic flowers as well as the weight
of the seeds are the most appropriate ones.
As a sciophilous species with comparatively tender leaves, Parietaria
judaica shows no remarcable adaptions to the habitat 'wall-fissure'.
While in chinks mostly small shaped stress-induced forms are found, shirt
communities with Parietaria judaica are scarcely considered. Releves
from Germany, France, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Tunesia as well as from different
mediteranean islands show, however, that this phenomenon is not rare. Depending
on the habitat and the region Parietaria judaica is able to grow
in shaded ruderal communities and nitrophilous skirts (esp. Stellarietea),
at river banks, in wa-tered orchards as well as in wall-fissures. Therefore
the principle of a class Parietarietea judaicae cannot be maintained.
Due to our actual knowledge, Parietaria judaica is a differentiating
species in sciophilous Stellarietea and Artemisietea communities.
It is also a differential species within the class Asplenietea for
synantropic communities, which are relatively well supplied by water and
nutrients.
